What is a Current Account?

The Current Account offered is a two-in-one account, which allows you the benefit of both savings as well as current account. The account provides facility of earning interest on the funds in it, while at the same time allowing you the flexibility to withdraw monies, as per your requirement through the cheque book facility provided to you.

In what currencies one can open a Current Account? What is the minimum balance requirement?

You can open a current account in Hong Kong Dollar (HKD), United States Dollar (USD) and / or Renminbi (RMB). The minimum balance requirement is HKD 10000, USD 1500 and RMB 10000 respectively.

How is the interest paid on the account?

The interest accrual will happen daily and will be credited monthly in the account. Interest will be paid on the credit balances for Retail Current Accounts

How will I get the statements of the account?

Your monthly statements of the account can be mailed at the communication address as per Bank's record. The statements are also sent to the registered e-mail ID and can be viewed in the Retail Internet Banking platform as well.

Will I be provided a cheque book with the account?

Yes, two cheque books of twenty five leaves each will be provided for every current account.

Is there any overdraft facility on the account?

No overdraft facility is provided on the Current Account

What are the various charges applicable for a Current Account?

The service charge payable for the account will be communicated by the Bank from time to time, and are detailed in the Schedule of Charges. You can confirm the applicable charges by contacting our Relationship Manager / Customer Service Manager by calling 22342651 or visiting us at the branch.

How can I apply for a Current Account and what are the documents I need to submit?

It is quite simple. You must contact our Relationship Manager or visit the branch, fill the Relationship Opening Form and furnish the following supporting documents. 

  1. Proof of Identity:
    • Hong Kong permanent residents - Copy of Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card (HKID)
    • Hong Kong Residents (Other than permanent residents) - Copy of HKID and Passport
    • Hong Kong non-residents -Copy of Passport
  2. Proof of residential address - E.g. latest copy of utility bills issued within last 3 months
  3. Proof of permanent address is required if different from residential address

Please note that we would need to see the originals of the above mentioned documents for verification. We request you to bring the original documents with you when you visit our branch for opening a relationship.

Can I have the Current Account in joint names?

Yes, you can hold the Current Account in joint names, to a maximum of four account holders. The account operations shall be in accordance with the instructions provided at the time of account opening.
